Established in 1984, Haier Group Corporation is a multinational home appliances and consumer electronics company headquartered in Qingdao, China. It designs, develops, manufactures and sells products including refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, microwave ovens, mobile phones, computers, and televisions.
  • Visitors to the Haier Branding Building and Haier Board of Directors Building in Qingdao were increasing, creating a congested arrival lobby as they registered for entry. Haier employees were increasingly getting delayed when entering and exiting, but Haier could not compromise office security by removing the use of staff cards, so a new solution was needed. In June 2019, the two Haier buildings in Qingdao participated in SenseTime’s pilot program to adopt SenseKeeper in the office lobbies and solve the congestion problem through AI. Haier has consistently sought new ways to intelligently upgrade its headquarters. It has already planned to widely adopt facial recognition technology across staff management systems. Adopting SenseKeeper is therefore an obvious and critical first step as it can be applied in various scenarios to enhance access management, including access of employees and visitors.
Haier chose SenseKeeper because it is known for its exceptional facial recognition accuracy and rapid recognition speed. The system is able to identify 50,000 people daily with accuracy (over 99%) and speed (0.3 seconds/person). SenseKeeper is also known to be simple to install and practical to use. The system also features the capacity to store extensive information of up to 50,000 profiles at its front-end, allowing SenseKeeper to operate even when the network is unavailable. As a standardized product, SenseKeeper is compatible with various systems and occasions. SenseKeeper’s algorithm is even flexible enough to handle the varying light of a glass building, like the Haier Branding Building. Its gate sensor camera is sensitive under all kinds of lighting conditions, such as when the sunlight shines directly into the lens making the faces dark and unrecognizable. Since SenseKeeper performs reliably even in such conditions, whether in terms of the speed or recognition accuracy it is precisely the flexible solution that Haier needs. After the first joint endeavor of upgrading the office turnstiles with SenseKeeper, Haier is now exploring further applications of SenseTime’s computer vision technologies in the future.
