SenseTime Achieves New Healthcare Breakthroughs with SenseCare Liver and Cardiac AI Software to Enable Faster and Improved Clinical Workflow

2020-11-17

SenseTime, a leading global artificial intelligence (AI) company, unveiled the SenseCare Liver and Cardiac smart clinical software at the Chinese Congress of Radiology 2020 (CCR 2020), an event attended by national-wide professionals in the radiology industry. The software assist interpretations of contrast-enhanced liver CT images and coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA) images respectively– to locate lesions and offer quantitative and qualitative data to facilitate doctors with clinical analysis.

The SenseCare Liver smart clinical software leverages SenseTime’s proprietary AI technologies to provide a one-stop tool for medical practitioners and assist them in clinical process – from image interpretation to preoperative assessment and planning. It can automatically register and display multiphase contrast-enhanced CT images, detect various focal lesions and other abnormalities in multiple phases, and provide risk evaluation within seconds. With precise quantitative assessment and qualitative measurements, doctors can now access an accurate and reliable reference to assist in diagnosis. Furthermore, the software enables robust real-time 3D rendering of the liver, tumors and blood vessels, which significantly reduces the time of 3D reconstruction from one hour to less than a minute. This further facilitates intuitive viewing of liver structure and improves the preoperative workflow for doctors. So far, the software has been deployed at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine and West China Hospital of Sichuan University, and has received very positive remarks from doctors.

Based on the data from the coronary CTA scans, the SenseCare Cardiac software provides interactive display and reconstruction of cardiovascular system. It can automatically perform heart segmentation, coronary vessel segmentation, centerline extraction, plaque detection and classification and stenosis assessment. Additionally, it also supports automatic film layouts for printing and structured reports based on AI findings. The software has been deployed at Changzhou Second People’s Hospital of Nanjing Medical University and have since then enhanced efficiency at the radiology department. Normally it takes 15-20 minutes for doctors to interpret one CTA scan and issue a report, but with the adoption of the software, it takes only 3-5 minutes.

The introduction of the two software demonstrates our commitment in providing smarter medical software to reduce the burden on medical practitioners and enhance overall efficiency,” said Dr Zhang Shaoting, Vice President and Deputy Head of Research at SenseTime. “We are excited that there are major opportunities for AI-empowered medical applications to have an even bigger role in future healthcare.”

The SenseCare Liver and Cardiac software are among multiple applications on SenseTime’s SenseCare Smart Health Platform – an AI-powered platform which offers an array of smart clinical applications for over 13 organs and body parts. It can assist doctors throughout the clinical process, from image diagnosis, 3D surgery planning to rehabilitation tracking to meet the demands of hospital-wide departments including radiology, orthopedics, hepatic surgery, cardiology, pathology, thoracic surgery, radiotherapy, etc.
