SenseTime Hosts Delegation of Nearly 100 Headmasters from China’s Top Secondary Schools

AI experts and school headmasters discussed fostering innovation and nurturing tech talent


Shanghai - May 24, 2021 - SenseTime, a leading global artificial intelligence (AI) company, hosted a visit delegation of nearly 100 headmasters from China’s top secondary schools at its Shanghai office, the company’s China and global research and development (R&D) headquarters. During the tour, a number of cutting-edge technologies and applications for AI education, smart health, and smart automobile were showcased. Mr. Yang Fan, co-founder of SenseTime, and Mr. Gao Yan, General Manager of SenseTime Education, also presented their views on the importance of and challenges related to launching AI education programmes in secondary schools, and expressed their hopes in partnering with schools to leverage SenseTime’s technological edge and rich experience in pioneering AI education and cultivating innovative talent.

The delegates consisted of headmasters from No.2 High School of East China Normal University, the High School Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the High School Affiliated to Fudan University, the Tianjin Nankai High School, Hengshui High School, Liaoning Experimental High School, Shangdong Experimental High School among top-tier high schools across China. Many of these elite high schools have already set up innovation laboratories, and have introduced a diverse range of relevant courses and competitions with the aim of unleashing students’ potential to innovate. In 2020, SenseTime and the High School Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University jointly launched an AI Lab alongside a comprehensive curriculum and teaching plans. Since 2018, the company has formed various extensive collaborations with schools in cities such as Shanghai, Qingdao and Chengdu.

Committed to preparing the next generation for the future of AI, SenseTime has developed a pioneering, integrated and comprehensive AI education platform that supports the entire AI education ecosystem from teacher training, teaching research to tech innovation. It now provides a suite of AI teaching materials covering the elementary, middle and high school curriculum, AI learning platform SenseStudy, and AI robotic learning tool SenseStorm under the SenseTime Edu brand. Furthermore, it has organised innovative competitions such as the International AI Fair (IAIF) for high school students to present their own AI projects.

 

So far, this innovative education system integrating platform, content and service has been adopted by more than 2,500 elementary and high schools in over 30 cities including Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Qingdao, Hong Kong and Macau. More than 7,200 frontline teachers have been trained to serve as the driving force for the development of foundational AI education.

 

Earlier this year, SenseTime co-launched the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Youth AI Development Centre (GBA Youth AI Development Centre) at the Hong Kong Science Park. The centre aims to cultivate the next generation of AI specialists and strengthen the overall competitiveness of technology talent across the GBA. Going forward, SenseTime will explore more opportunities to collaborate with partners from both academia and industry to drive the development and mass adoption of AI education.
