  • Hubei Provincial Museum General Cultural and Entertainment
    SenseTime created a new experience to play this ancient musical instrument with the application of advanced and highly accurate AR and AI algorithms. Museum visitors can now listen to the sound of the chime bells simply by pointing a camera-equipped mobile device at the real exhibit or images of it and tap on the virtual instrument projected on their smartphone screens to produce sound. The system involves the use of high-precision positioning algorithms to seamlessly integrate the real-life exhibit into a virtual instrument and allow real-time sound generation on users’ smartphones, as well as a realistic occlusion. SenseTime’s Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) system is also applied to ensure the steady projection of the virtual chime bells on mobile devices. With the help of SenseTime’s AI and AR technologies, the ancient melody of this precious piece of old instrument can now be heard again, providing the opportunity for the world to discover the beauty of Chinese traditional music, also a giant step forward in preserving traditional culture.
  • The Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai General Cultural and Entertainment ds
    Launched at the MoCA Pavilion on Jun 19, 2019. SenseTime and MoCA Shanghai revealed artworks that merged seamlessly with SenseTime’s advanced and original AI-empowered technologies, such as facial recognition, 3D face reconstruction, neural style transfer, body sensing, data visualization and more. These gave visitors fresh inspiration on the beauty of life by offering interactive art that shows the power of AI beyond the many familiar examples of AI in action today, while also making AI accessible to new audiences. The exhibition showcased a total of four crossover projects on art and AI in the following order: Element Lee’s Elementary World: SmartArt, Zhang Ying’s Lesson of Practice, Liu Jiayu’s Art Expression of the Shanghai Sky and Zhou Hehe’s Interaction with Sculpture. The art space featuring Elementary World: SmartArt aimed at leading visitors on an extraordinary multi-sensual journey via art installations integrated with SenseTime’s AI technology. The sci-fi mural named AI Superpowers created by artist Element Lee is a prime example. Inspired by the world’s first AI high school textbook Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence published by SenseTime, Lee combined recycling materials such as propylene, stickers and obsolete appliances with AI technologies to bring about an unprecedented art piece. Apart from static exhibits, the area was also set up with augmented reality (AR) gaming areas, namely AI Superpowers and Neural Style Transfer of Nanjing Road (W), which provided visitors with an immersive experience on the fusion of AI and art. This collaboration between SenseTime and MoCA has paved the way for the future integration and crossover of art and AI technology by inspiring people to take a closer look at how AI and art can interact with our daily life, generating more inspiration and innovative ideas for both AI and art.

    Applying "AR + AI" features of the SenseAR platform, SenseTime arranged two exhibitions of Hao She Kao Sheng Xiang and Kong Miao Ji Kong with AR-powered interaction, in collaboration with Palace Museum Culture. This partnership marks a pioneering fusion of technology and culture. As a bold attempt to incorporate an "AI" dimension into the ancient culture of China, the interactive exhibition introduces the traditional Chinese culture using innovative technology to diversify art forms and attract more young visitors, injecting fresh vitality into the traditional culture. The partnership with SenseTime enables Palace Museum Culture to present the traditional Chinese culture to the audience more intuitively applying the latest AI technology, demonstrating for them the value and importance of integrating culture and technology in the new era.

    The Smile2Vote application uses expression identification technology, an artificial intelligence technology developed by SenseTime, to count the number of passers-by, and identify the number of people looking at the media on top of those who smile at the screen. Through computer vision algorithm, Smile2Vote interprets the images of people looking at the screen to assess if there is a smile and if the smile is qualified as a successful vote. Then the interpretation of these data triggers the application to register the results on the screen. The system stores no personal data or identity of anyone. Simle2Vote is an engaging approach that inspires people to appreciate art more in a simple and fun way, in addition to promoting the SAW. “If only the spectators or auditors are infected by the feelings which the author has felt, it is art.” – Leo Tolstoy. This captivating idea of Leo has inspired and motivated SenseTime and its partners to come up with a voting solution that could capture the connections between the viewers’ emotions and the art pieces.
  • Shanghai International Automobile City GroupIntelligent Cockpit
    Currently, there are over 100 shuttle bus routes in Shanghai, 38 of them have been upgraded with SenseTime intelligent cabin sensing solutions, which use machine learning and video analytics to recognize driver identity and analyze in real-time the fatigue and concentration levels, plus signs of driver distraction. The results then trigger appropriate alerts to ensure safe driving. The upgrade will be expanded to all routes in the near future. Empowered by SenseTime's advanced technology SenseDrive Driving Monitoring System (DMS), shuttle buses with an ordinary infra-red camera and an ordinary installed chipset can monitor driving conditions in real-time to ensure higher levels of safety. With AI technology in place, it can recognize a combination of human facial changes, blinking of eyes, and specific signs of driver distraction. Driver fatigue levels can be identified accurately through closing of eyes or yawning, while distracting behavior such as smoking, drinking, making phone calls, etc. will be recognized and trigger alerts. This can all be achieved through SenseTime’s technology while collecting and processing the traffic data to enhance road safety.   Moving forward, SenseTime will further collaborate with SIACG by introducing more AI applications for smart automobiles in order to elevate the driving experience, improve driver quality levels and promote the “AI+Smart Transport” applications.

    The fundamental AI education course developed by SenseTime provided new teaching materials, a new course syllabus, experimental learning platform, educational robots, plus laboratory and training services for instructors. To ensure suitable materials were used, SenseTime published the world’s first AI textbook for high school students -- Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence (High School Edition) in April 2018. It has since been adopted by 40 high schools in Shanghai. In May 2019, SenseTime published the AI textbook in traditional Chinese as well, for students in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. SenseTime also developed the SenseStudy AI Experimental Platform, AI laboratory and educational robots based on its proprietary deep learning platform SenseParrots. Equipped with core AI capability, this hardware can be leveraged to develop in-class practice, homework, contests and for students to develop their own AI innovations. Students at all levels require motivation and impetus to drive them to greater achievement.     Haier chose SenseKeeper because it is known for its exceptional facial recognition accuracy and rapid recognition speed. The system is able to identify 50,000 people daily with accuracy (over 99%) and speed (0.3 seconds/person). SenseKeeper is also known to be simple to install and practical to use. The system also features the capacity to store extensive information of up to 50,000 profiles at its front-end, allowing SenseKeeper to operate even when the network is unavailable. As a standardized product, SenseKeeper is compatible with various systems and occasions. SenseKeeper’s algorithm is even flexible enough to handle the varying light of a glass building, like the Haier Branding Building. Its gate sensor camera is sensitive under all kinds of lighting conditions, such as when the sunlight shines directly into the lens making the faces dark and unrecognizable. Since SenseKeeper performs reliably even in such conditions, whether in terms of the speed or recognition accuracy it is precisely the flexible solution that Haier needs. After the first joint endeavor of upgrading the office turnstiles with SenseKeeper, Haier is now exploring further applications of SenseTime’s computer vision technologies in the future.
